Born on Aug. 30, 1941, in Jefferson County, Helen Marie McGaughey found solace and joy in the wonders of nature. Her dedication to gardening reflected her deep appreciation for the beauty of life and the earth’s bounty. Helen’s skill in canning her produce ensured that her love for gardening extended well beyond the harvest season, providing sustenance and delight to her loved ones throughout the year.

Beyond her green thumb, Helen embraced life with a zest for adventure and creativity. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Dorotha Mae Scrogham McGaughey, as well as her siblings, Ruth, Deloris, Stanley, Thomas, and Kenneth. Yet, her memory lives on through her daughter, Bonnie Cook of Cox’s Creek; sons, Douglas Keith Cook of Louisville and Ronnie Cook (Donnetta) of Boston; sister, Wanda Mae Brown of Louisville; brother, Charles McGaughey of Waddy; six grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Her legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
Honoring Helen’s Life and Legacy
The life of Helen Marie McGaughey will be celebrated and remembered during her funeral service on Friday, Feb. 23, 2024, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home in Taylorsville. Reverend Roy Temple Jr. will officiate the service, honoring Helen’s deep faith and devotion to the Lord. Following the service, Helen will be laid to rest in the Highland Memory Gardens in Mount Washington, where she will find eternal peace amidst the beauty of nature she so dearly cherished. Prior to the funeral, friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects during visitation hours at the funeral home.
