Watson Rauicava Obituary, Death – It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to a beloved member of our community, Watson Rauicava, fondly known as Watson. His vibrant personality, infectious smile, and unwavering optimism endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Born on July 28, 1968, Watson’s sudden passing in Lautoka, Fiji, at the age of 55 has left a profound void in our lives.

A Life of Service and Achievement:  Watson’s journey in public service began in 1989 when he joined the Fiji Customs and Excise Department, now known as the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service. With dedication and diligence, he ascended the ranks, showcasing remarkable leadership qualities along the way. In 2009, he achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Fijian to graduate with a Master of International Customs Law and Administration (MICLA) from the prestigious Centre for Customs Excise Studies at the University of Canberra. Though he may no longer walk among us, his legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of those he touched.

A Legacy of Excellence: Throughout his tenure, Watson left an indelible mark on the organization, contributing to its growth and success. His commitment to building capacity and fostering professional development among his colleagues was unparalleled. Watson’s mentorship and guidance paved the way for numerous officers, shaping their careers and enabling them to reach new heights. His efforts also played a pivotal role in elevating the recognition of Customs studies nationally, leading to the provision of scholarships for in-service officers.

A Fond Farewell:  In 2015, after years of dedicated service culminating in his role as the National Manager of Border Control, Watson bid farewell to the organization he had served with distinction.  Watson’s spirit of generosity, kindness, and unwavering dedication to duty will continue to inspire us all. As we mourn the loss of a dear colleague and friend, let us cherish the memories we shared with Watson and honor his remarkable legacy by emulating his values of service, compassion, and integrity.
