John Kinsley Obituary, Death – We regret to announce the passing of retired Division Manager John Kinsley Jr., who breathed his last on Wednesday, February 14th, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones, after bravely battling lymphoma. John’s journey in public service began in 1970 when he embarked on a career as a professional firefighter in Lantana, Fla.
A Commitment to Excellence: John’s commitment to his profession led him to pursue further education and training. In 1977, he earned his Emergency Medical II Paramedic Certificate from Palm Beach Junior College, enhancing his skills and capabilities. Not content with just that, John continued to expand his expertise, undertaking additional coursework at Essex Community College in Baltimore. This dedication culminated in him becoming a Nationally Registered Paramedic in 1989. His leadership and dedication left an indelible mark on Sussex County EMS and the wider community.
A Pioneer in Emergency Medical Services: In 1990, John played a pivotal role as one of the original ten paramedics, dubbed the “Golden 10”, hired to establish paramedic services in Sussex County, thus marking the inception of Sussex County EMS. Over his illustrious 18-year tenure with SCEMS, John’s career trajectory reflected his unwavering commitment and exceptional leadership qualities.
A Legacy of Leadership and Service: He ascended through various roles, from a Field Paramedic to a Paramedic Supervisor, Operations Manager, and finally, as the esteemed Technical Services Division Manager. During his time with SCEMS, John not only excelled in his managerial capacities but also actively contributed to the enhancement of departmental capabilities. He played pivotal roles in the Hazardous Materials Decon Team and served as the department’s primary Designated Infection Control Officer.
