Larry Geist Obituary, Death – The 76-year-old Fleetwood resident Larry P. “Sarge” Geist passed away in Middletown, Pennsylvania on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Larry Geist was born in Longswamp Township on June 7, 1947. His parents were the late Paul C. and Betty A. (Solt) Geist. On April 30, 1976, he wed his 47-year wife, Lois A. (Kemp) Geist, in Mabel Blank’s offices.
As a Staff Sergeant in the US Marine Corps, Larry proudly and assiduously served his country in Vietnam from 1965 to 1968. In addition to receiving a Purple Heart for his wounds received while serving in the Marine Corps, Larry also received a Vietnam Gallentry Cross with a Silver Star for his exceptional service. In Hamburg, where he was employed as a draftsman by Hamerly Truck Bodies during the war, Larry graduated from Brandywine Heights High School in 1965. Larry continued to work as a law enforcement officer.

After 25 years of service, Larry resigned from the Fleetwood Borough Police Department in 2005 as a Sergeant. In addition, he has served as an officer with the Kutztown Borough Police Department and the Maidencreek Township Police Department. Larry also served as a volunteer for the Reading Police Department’s Auxiliary. Larry worked at Burkholder’s Pig Farm in Richmond Township for eight years after retiring.
Larry had a strong commitment to his family and his community. He enjoyed working outside, making crafts, and tinkering in his garage once he retired. The three children Larry leaves behind are Cora (Haring) Young of Bridgeport, PA; Devin L. Geist of Robesonia; and Jennifer A. (Geist) Fenstermaker of Kutztown. His wife Lois goes with him as well. Along with his sister Beverly A. (Geist) Riegel of Kempton and her husband Lyle Riegel, he also leaves behind nephews and nieces.
His grandchildren Shaine, Dakota, Owen, Harrison, and Lauren, as well as his great-grandchildren Weston and Caleb, survive him. On Saturday, March 2, 2024, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, Larry will have a visitation at Walbert Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 14390 Kutztown Rd. in Fleetwood. On Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., Larry will receive military honors at the funeral home. His relatives and friends would then be invited to a sharing session.
