James Amick Obituary, Death – James J. Amick, affectionately known as “Chip” or “Papa”, was a beloved figure in Bethel, whose life journey encompassed service to his country, success in his career, and deep devotion to his family. Born on June 20, 1933, in Beacon, NY, he was the son of James D. and Adeline Amick. He received his education in New York schools before embarking on a remarkable journey of service and achievement. In 1953, inspired by a sense of duty and patriotism, James enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served aboard the U.S. Destroyer Ship Shenandoah.

During his service, he distinguished himself, attending prestigious schools such as the Class “A” Yeoman School and the Naval Justice School, and earning accolades including the Navy Occupation Service Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal, and the National Defense Medal. His dedication and commitment to his country were evident throughout his military career, culminating in an honorable discharge in 1957 with the rank of Yeoman 1st Class.

 Professional Success and Entrepreneurial Spirit 
Following his military service, James embarked on a successful career path, initially working with IBM before transitioning to a role in sales at Pitney-Bowes. However, it was his entrepreneurial spirit that truly defined his professional journey. James eventually established his own thriving business, which flourished for twenty-five years until his retirement. Additionally, James was an avid golfer, relishing the opportunity to play on courses across the United States, Bermuda, Canada, and Mexico. He took great pride in his “hole in one” achievement, reflecting his dedication and skill on the golf course.

Above all, James J. Amick will be remembered for his unwavering love and devotion to his family. His fifty-nine-year marriage to his beloved wife Elaine was a testament to their enduring bond and shared journey through life’s joys and challenges. Together, they raised two children, Christopher and Laurie, who were the light of his life. His cherished grandchildren, Trevor, Justin, Amanda, Ryan, and Alexandra, brought him immeasurable joy and pride. Despite his professional success and personal interests, James’s greatest source of happiness was the time spent with his loved ones, creating cherished memories that will be treasured for generations to come.

 Final Farewell and Remembrance 
On February 23, 2024, James J. Amick passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Regional Hospice Center for Comfort Care and Healing in Danbury. While his physical presence may be gone, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on February 24, 2024, at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church in Brookfield, followed by a private interment. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home in Danbury on February 23, 2024.
