Manahawkin, NJ bids farewell to a beloved resident who touched the lives of many with his warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit. Richard, affectionately known as Richie, peacefully departed this world in his favorite chair, surrounded by the comfort of the home he built and cherished for 31 years.
A Life Marked by Passion and Service: Richie’s journey began in Middlesex, NJ, where he was born to Edward and Mabel Bush. His childhood was imbued with a love for athletics, particularly baseball, which became his lifelong passion. His dedication to the sport led him to pitch at Grand Canyon College before duty called him to serve in the Vietnam War. Drafted into the Army at 21, Richie served his country with honor from 1966 to 1968. Upon his return, he found purpose as a police officer at the Berkeley Township Police Department, dedicating 32 years to protecting and serving his community.
A Man of Many Joys: Beyond his professional commitments, Richie’s love for baseball remained steadfast. He coached his children and the Stafford Stingrays softball team, leaving an indelible mark on the local sports community. An avid poker player and master storyteller, Richie brought joy and laughter wherever he went. Richie’s legacy is one of unwavering love, loyalty, and resilience—a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A Cherished Legacy: At the heart of Richie’s world was his family. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 39 years, Linda Bush, six loving children, their spouses, three grandchildren, and his sister, Doreen Bush Deneau. Friends, family, and community members are invited to honor Richie’s memory at Thos. L. Shinn Funeral Home on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 4 pm. Following the service, guests are welcome to join in celebrating Richie’s life at Calloway’s in West Creek.
