Gerry Short was born in Ireland and later moved to England in the 1950s. It was during his time in the army that he first encountered Chesterfield Football Club, thanks to a colleague who introduced him to the world of the Spireites. From that moment on, Gerry’s devotion to the club only grew stronger.

 Contributions as a Spire Lotto Agent: 
In 1993, Gerry took on the role of an agent collecting for Blues on the Move, a pivotal fundraising initiative for Chesterfield FC. His dedication to the cause never wavered, and he continued to serve as a loyal Spire Lotto agent until his recent passing. Gerry’s unwavering commitment played a crucial role in supporting the club’s endeavors and fostering community spirit among fellow fans.

 A Constant Presence at Saltergate and the SMH Group Stadium: 
Gerry’s love for Chesterfield FC extended beyond his role as a Lotto agent. He was a familiar face at both Saltergate and the SMH Group Stadium, where he could be found cheering on the team with unmatched enthusiasm. Gerry’s funeral will take place at Chesterfield Crematorium on Thursday, February 29 at 9.50am. In a touching tribute, his cortege will make a lap of the stadium before the service, allowing his fellow fans to bid farewell to a beloved member of the Spireite family. While Gerry may no longer be with us in person, his legacy will live on in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
