Peggy Hughes Obituary, Death – Orangeburg, SC – Peggy Ann Hughes, a cherished member of the Orangeburg community, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the age of 82. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to her family and faith.
A Life of Love and Family: Born and raised in Orangeburg, Peggy was the youngest child of the late B.F. and Lurene Garrick Smoak. In 1960, she married the love of her life, John J. Hughes, with whom she shared a beautiful journey of 64 years. Together, they raised four children, instilling in them values of compassion, hard work, and togetherness. Peggy found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. She delighted in frequent trips to Hammricks, cherished moments shared over meals at McDonalds, and treasured every opportunity to gather with her beloved family. Her warmth and affection knew no bounds, touching the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Woman of Faith and Community: Peggy’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. A devoted member of Orangeburg Baptist Tabernacle, she found solace and strength in her church community. Her unwavering commitment to her faith was evident in her attendance at church services and active participation in church activities. While her physical presence may be gone, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A Fond Farewell: Peggy leaves behind a legacy of love that will be carried on by her husband, John J. Hughes, her three daughters, Sheri Bowers (Eddie), Cindy Breland, Kelly Hughes, her son Randy Hughes (Maria), along with six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Orangeburg, SC, as family and friends gather to bid farewell to a remarkable woman who touched countless lives with her kindness and grace. Peggy Ann Hughes will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever remain a source of comfort and inspiration to those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
