Holistic veterinary medicine pioneer who is a pioneer in the field

In 1982, Dr. Tiekert was the driving force behind the establishment of the American Humane Veterinary Medical Association (AHVMA). Initially, the organisation was comprised of a small group of veterinarians who shared a passion for holistic approaches to veterinary care. In a short amount of time, the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association (AHVMA) went from being a fledgling organisation to becoming a prominent organisation that advocates for holistic veterinary practices.

A Dedication That Lasts a Lifetime

The contributions that Dr. Tiekert made to AHVMA were varied and extensive. He held the position of president of the organisation for a period of five years, editor of the newsletter for an impressive sixteen years, and executive director for an extraordinary twenty-five years. It was largely due to his unwavering dedication and tireless efforts that AHVMA had the opportunity to develop into the thriving community that it is today.

A Farewell Feeling from the Heart

With Dr Tiekert’s passing, the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association (AHVMA) community and the field of holistic veterinary medicine as a whole are left with a profound void. The passion, wisdom, and unflinching dedication that he possessed will be sorely missed by everyone who had the honour of knowing him. During this trying time, we would like to express our deepest condolences to Dr. Tiekert’s family on behalf of the Board of Directors, the Staff, and the Volunteers of the American Heart Association.
