During his more than two decades of meritorious service to the Diocese of Oxford, Bishop Alan left a lasting impression on the people under his leadership. His leadership extended beyond the boundaries of the church, and he had a significant impact on education and church schools. Especially, Bishop Alan was a fervent advocate for victims of abuse and a devoted supporter of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Bishop Steven went on to say, “He was a bishop who served the people of Buckinghamshire with devotion over a long and demanding ministry, prioritizing the parishes and clergy in his care above all else.”

The Ven. Guy Elsmore, Archdeacon of Buckingham, expressed his deepest sympathies and called Bishop Alan a courageous, shrewd, and exceptional pastoral leader and teacher. The people of Buckinghamshire, the diocese, and partners all mourn the loss of a beloved spiritual guide.
